Message from the President

First, I would like to thank everyone who helped make the Airboat Show a BIG success. It took a lot of man and woman power to pull the show off without a hitch. From my viewpoint, everything was great from the layout, food, security, and overall. The only thing I think we need next year is more gate keys and possible a bigger venue for the show. I think we have outgrown Bass Pro Shops field and it might be time to move on. The weather was great, a little hot, but it was better than rain.

Second, I would also like to thank everyone who helped sell Arctic  Cat raffle tickets before the show. Between all of the sales I believe we came out ahead at the end of the day and actually made a little money on the raffle. Please come to the next general meeting and get the details. We need to figure out what our raffle item will be for next year’s show so we can get a head start on selling tickets and make it even more profitable to the club next year.  We are open to all suggestions for the raffle item.
Last but not least, everyone who helped put on the show, in one way or another is invited to come to the Airboat Show Appreciation Picnic at Plantation Heritage Park on April 26. The club has Pavilion #5 from 8:00am till 6:30pm, and Catering by Joel’s place will be serving food from 11:30am thru 3:30 pm. We just need a head count to tell them so they prepare enough food. It is BYOB except for tea and soda - that the caterers will provide. I hope that everyone who helped at the show can come and enjoy the day relaxing and having someone else cater to them. There are horseshoe pits and a playground for the kids. And the park is dog friendly; just keep them on a leash.

Hope to see you at the meeting
John Storms

The Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission came into existence on July 1, 1999 - the result of a constitutional amendment approved in the 1998 General Election as part of the package proposed by the Constitution Revision Commission.

In the implementation of the Constitutional Amendment, the Florida Legislature combined all of the staff and Commissioners of the former Marine Fisheries Commission, elements of the Divisions of Marine Resources and Law Enforcement of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, and all of the employees and Commissioners of the former Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission.

Five years later, after consulting stakeholders, employees and other interested parties, the FWC adopted a new internal structure to address complex conservation issues of the new century. The new structure focuses on programs, such as habitat management, that affect numerous species. It will focus on moving the decision-making process closer to the public and did not require any additional funding or additional positions.
